Job Summary

Responsible for providing professional nursing care to on-site employees for assigned contract company. Manages and directs the nursing components of the Occupational Medicine program. Treats occupational injuries and illnesses. Ensures the appropriate documentation, recording and reporting of all work-related illnesses and injuries for employees of the contract company. Maintains the computer-based tracking system and compiles required reports and records. Coordinates cases between health care providers and the contract company. Participate in regulatory and organizational audits and health and safety committees.  

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
Minimum Years of Experience: 5 Years of relevant nursing experience 
Substitutable Education & Experience (Optional): None
Required Certifications/Licensure: Current RN license to practice in the state of South Carolina

Maintain CPR Certification
Required Training: None.

Essential Functions

  • Provide on and off-site management of occupational medicine program for assigned contract company. 
  • Evaluate, assess, and develop care plans for work-related health events.
  • Coordinate with interdisciplinary team of physicians, physical therapy staff, and hospital staff and serves as a resource when necessary. 
  • Advise and write departmental policies to ensure best practice. 
  • Assist departments with identifying, evaluating, and implementing accommodations and return to work options for workers with restricted duties. 
  • Completes all necessary annual reviews, to include assisting with internal and external audits. 
  • Manage all cases to facilitate productivity, assuring appropriate care and return to work.
  • Assess healthcare needs, then implement and manage healthcare programs to improve health and facilitate return to work, maintain OSHA records & reports and worker medical files.
  • Contribute in the design of controls for injury prevention and health surveillance related to actual and potential hazards in the work environment.
  • Identify primary and secondary prevention and health promotion strategies to optimize health of the population

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Maintains contact with management to stay abreast of injury trends and reports on concerns related to quality of care.
  • Manage the required physical evaluation programs and services to meet regulatory requirements such as: OSHA, CDC and DHEC.
  • Serves as intermediary between insurance carriers, attorneys, providers, employers, and employees. 
  • Assess patient needs, review and coordinate options for services and resources, evaluate patient progress, deliver education, and provide thorough and supportive discharge planning. 
  • Perform utilization review and preauthorization of potential services. 
  • Investigates cases related to COVID-19 and provides guidance to patients and their families. 
  • Case manage employee illness and injury. Coordinate with insurance, claim examiners, patients, physicians, employers, and attorneys. 
  • Stays abreast of current trends and best practices. 
  • Other duties as assigned.
