Nuclear Medicine Educator - PN

Job Summary

Facilitates the delivery of quality patient care through practice as an educator, mentor, and leader for Nuclear Medicine Technicians in the Physician Network. The Nuclear Medicine Technician Educator is an expert clinician who demonstrates departmental and service line-based leadership, excellent communication skills, and proficient knowledge and decision- making skills. Performs all aspects of diagnostic and therapeutic testing and quality improvement related to nuclear medicine exams in which radiopharmaceuticals are prepared and administered. Presents a positive image and attitude to staff, patients, and visitors. Educators are exceptional teachers, critical thinkers, and exhibit collaboration with all members of leadership, staff, and providers. Develops, coordinates, and implements orientation, training, and competency validation for all Nuclear Medicine Technicians, including new hires and students. Maintains and evaluates equipment/supplies for diagnostic services. Responsible for the ongoing quality assurance necessary to maintain accreditation and adhering to its standards as well as submitting reaccreditation applications.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Education: Graduate of an approved School of Nuclear Medicine Technology or Equivalent.
Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years of experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
Substitutable Education & Experience: None.
Required Certifications/Licensure: Certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology;

Current South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association License;

Current CPR Certification
Required Training: Must possess excellent understanding of medical terminology.

Essential Functions

• Demonstrates competence to provide developmentally appropriate care/treatment for the following population:
  • Infant (Birth to 1 year)
  • Child (1 through 12 years)
  • Adolescent (13 years through 17 years)
  • Adult (18 through 65 years)
  • Geriatric (Over 65 years)
• Performs all duties and responsibilities of the Physician Network Nuclear Medicine Technician. 
• Consistently and integrally involved in daily operations, which includes creating daily staffing schedules as well as managing call-outs or unexpected staffing/scheduling changes.
• Responsible for coordinating and maintaining staff education, orientation, and competencies:
  • Serves the role of educational mentor to all Nuclear Medicine Technicians in the Physician Network.
  • Develops, coordinates, implements, evaluates, and revises current protocols and competencies per accreditation guidelines.
  • Researches best practice and assists with policy and procedure development, revisions, and annual reviews.
  • Provides structured orientation to new employees and identifies areas of specific competencies to be completed annually by all staff members.
  • Identifies needs for staff development.
  • Creates, implements, and evaluates education programs for group settings and     works individually with staff for training, educating, and mentoring.
  • Provides consistent feedback to staff and mentoring through positive interactions.
• Ensures adherence to clinical and accreditation standards:
  • Responsible for maintaining and submitting documentation for Nuclear Medicine Accreditation.
  • Maintains continuous quality assurance plans according to accreditation standards.
  • Provides quarterly QA data to Quality Department and Cardiovascular Directors.
• Maintains equipment and facilitates operations of diagnostic and therapeutic services for Nuclear Medicine:
  • Monitors and evaluates the safety, efficiency, and accuracy of diagnostic tests.
  • Evaluates current equipment for optimal operation.
  • Serves as resource to staff.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Provides detailed feedback and participates as needed to Director(s) for Probationary and Annual Performance Evaluations.   
• Promotes a professional working atmosphere in department and maintains professional rapport with the Medical Director(s), Medical Staff, and all other healthcare professionals.
• Demonstrates competence in critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assist staff in providing care and treatment for the patient populations served.
• Serves as a resource and role model for Nuclear Medicine staff, other healthcare personnel, and Nuclear Medicine students in the acquisition of knowledge and skills related to their practice.
• Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, in-service meetings, current literature and professional affiliations; maintains certification and educational requirements.
• Embodies those behaviors, philosophies, and values which serve to uphold the ideals and enhance the image of Lexington Medical Center.
• Performs all other duties as assigned or as required by circumstances based on departmental needs.
